Workers dormitory and training centre to be built in Jalan Papan

The Association of Process Industry (ASPRI) will build a 7,900-bed workers accommodation in Jalan Papan to cater to workers from the process industry, it announced on Tuesday (Dec 23).

The integrated development will also house a 3,000 square metre training centre which provides training courses for process industry workers who reside in the facility. The ASPRI training courses will help process industry workers upgrade their skills, knowledge, competencies and productivity.

Mr Charles Quek, president of ASPRI, said: “With this strategic partnership (between the Government and ASPRI) and the future growth of the Process Construction and Maintenance industry, I am confident that it will be a success. This is particularly so since with ASPRI’s training facility housed within the dormitory, the industry workforce is geared to become more skilful and productive through comprehensive, customised training programmes.”

The integrated facility, which will be designed and built by Centurion Corporation and Lian Beng Group, is scheduled to be completed by mid-2016. It will have easy access to Jurong Island, where most of its workers are expected to commute to for work.

The process industry encompasses plants involved in the manufacturing of petroleum, petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical products, as well as the companies which provide construction and maintenance works to the plants.
