S’pore, M’sia pleased with progress on Malayan Railway Lands in S’pore

Singapore and Malaysia are pleased with the progress made in implementing the agreement reached between their prime ministers during a Leaders’ Retreat here on May 24 on Malayan Railway Lands in Singapore.

This came after the Joint Implementation Team held its first meeting on Monday and Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian delegation was led by Mr Rastam Mohd Isa, Secretary-General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs while Singapore’s delegation was led by Mr Peter Ho, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, both sides said they discussed the implementation details to undertake steps to move forward issues arising from the Points of Agreement (POA).

These revolve around the relocation of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad’s train station from Tanjong Pagar to Woodlands Train Checkpoint, the co-located Customs, Immigration and Quarantine facility and the establishment of M-S Pte Ltd.

Two sub-committees were established, namely the Malaysia-Singapore Relocation Sub-Committee and the Sub-Committee on the Establishment of M-S Pte Ltd.
The next meeting will be held in late August 2010 in Singapore.
