Year-end school holidays may be some months away, but parents seeking activities for the family during the school break can look forward to visiting a new indoor activity park from Finland.
In November, indoor activity park brand SuperPark is opening a 40,000 sq ft activity site — around three-quarters of a football field — offering more than 20 activities in three themed zones for Singaporeans of all ages.
Day passes for the park, which is situated near City Hall, are tentatively priced between S$18 and S$40, SuperPark announced in a press release on Tuesday (Sept 18). The exact location of the activity park will be disclosed at a later date, the company said in reply to TODAY’s queries.
The Finnish brand hopes to “bring a new wave of energy into Singapore’s lifestyle scene”.
First started in 2012 in Vuokatti, Finland, SuperPark operates 13 sites in the Nordic country, before embarking on an international expansion that includes Hong Kong, China, Sweden and France.
There are currently 18 SuperParks globally, and the company intends to grow that to 100 sites by 2020.
Singapore will be the second country in Asia to have its own SuperPark. The first Asian SuperPark in Hong Kong is set to celebrate its first anniversary soon.
A third SuperPark, set in Kuala Lumpur near the Petronas Twin Towers, is scheduled to open in December.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Three themed zones for activities; ticket prices cover all equipment needed for activities
- The adventure area: Younger children and their parents could play the flying fox or tube slides. There is also a kid’s gym, and a pedal car track.
- The game arena: Youngsters could take a bat and hone their baseball skills, or practise their drills and jump shot at street basketball. They could even compete against the artificial intelligence goal keeper, where their performance is measured by radar and other digital systems.
- The freestyle hall: Teenagers could challenge themselves with the super climb, a tailor-made climbing concept, or partake in the ninja track, a warrior obstacle course. They could even venture into the skate and scoot world, or bounce on the trampoline platform, among other activities.
- Experienced staff, many of whom are recognised coaches, will man the park.
BACKGROUND
SuperPark was founded by Finnish businessman Taneli Sutinen in 2012. He was sitting at a cafe reading a newspaper, when his then four-year-old daughter grabbed him by the arm, and insisted that he play with her. As he got tangled among child-sized tunnels and slides, he got the inspiration to create an activity park where children and adults could play easily side-by-side.
