Land around Woodlands MRT station slated for development

There are plans to develop the land around Woodlands MRT station into a regional centre.

They are part of the government’s strategy to bring jobs closer to homes in Singapore’s heartlands.

National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has begun to review the development plans for the area.

It is part of the current Master Plan review exercise, now that the location of the Thomson Line MRT station at Woodlands has been finalised.

The remarks came in Mr Khaw’s written parliamentary response to questions raised by Member of Parliament for Sembawang Group Representation Constituency, Ong Teng Koon.

Mr Ong had asked if there are plans to develop the empty plots of land surrounding Woodlands Civic Centre.

He had also asked if the finalisation of plans for the Thomson Line MRT station at Woodlands has brought forward the timeline to consider developing lands that are not affected by the construction of the station.
