JTC Corporation said it was looking to set up an offshore marine centre as well as establish a MedTech cluster, as part of a move to reposition itself as an Industrial Infrastructure Innovator.
It announced this at its 2009 Annual Report conference Monday.
Some of the other initiatives JTC is exploring include a general aviation centre, a biologics facility, a surface finishing complex for the precision engineering cluster and land optimisation solutions such as small footprint standard factories.
The offshore marine centre will offer companies common facilities along the waterfront.
This is in line with its move to innovate and optimise the use of scarce waterfront land in Singapore.
JTC said a shared waterfront facility will help draw new and better quality marine manufacturing activities to Singapore.
The Centre will be completed by next year and will be located in Tuas.
Meanwhile JTC said it also planned to put all the leading Medical Technology industries together in a MedTech cluster in Tukang Innovation Park.
Phase 1 of the project will be completed by 2013, and will yield 75,000 square metres of space.
The entire cluster will yield 185,000 square metres of space when it is fully developed.
The cluster also aims to support a projected $5 billion dollars worth of medical equipment manufacturing in Singapore by 2015.
JTC said it is also exploring ways to reduce construction time for industrial facilities in Singapore.
It is looking at construction methods and technologies that can reduce construction time by 10 to 15 per cent.
These initiatives are part of JTC’s move to reposition itself as an Industrial Infrastructure Innovator.
This means that besides being efficient, JTC also realise the need to provide innovative infrastructure solutions.
This include optimising land-use and addressing the challenges of environmental sustainability, while providing a unique competitive advantage for industries in Singapore.
