Eldercare centres do not affect flat prices, say some residents

While residents in Woodlands are petitioning for a proposed eldercare centre in their neighbourhood to be moved elsewhere, others living near one in Ang Mo Kio feel differently.

The eldercare centre at Block 123 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 is run by the Asian Women’s Welfare Association.

Its services are so welcomed that over the past two years, it has seen a 20 per cent increase in elderly patients who require their services.

The centre, which has been around for more than 10 years, sees about 50 people every day.

The association said it has not received many complaints.

Residents that Channel NewsAsia spoke to said the centre neither affected their lives nor the prices of their flats.

According to the Ministry of Health, key factors considered when planning the location of eldercare centres include the area’s demographics, the adequacy of existing services nearby, as well as the availability of space.
