Digital Realty Trust opens second data centre in Singapore

In response to growing demand for database storage, global data centre provider Digital Realty Trust launched its second data centre in Singapore, Digital Loyang Way, on Thursday (Jun 2).

The 177,000 square feet facility is designed to accommodate a wide range of customer deployments from cloud service providers to financial services customers in an efficient and eco-friendly manner.

Located in Loyang, Digital Realty’s latest data centre will be connected to its other data centre in Jurong, and this is aimed at providing central-to-east and east-to-west connectivity.

“The launch of our new Loyang Way facility enables us to address a growing demand for agile, open and connected data centre solutions from our customers across Asia Pacific and around the world.” said Digital Realty CEO, Mr A William Stein.

The Economic Development Board (EDB) said that this expansion is in line with Singapore’s vision of becoming the digital capital of Asia.

“Data centres are a key component of the infrastructure that supports the digital economy. They enable both local and international companies to build digital capabilities and to pursue their digital transformation strategies from within Singapore,” said Economic Development Board Assistant Managing Director Ms Thien Kwee Eng.”

“Digital Realty’s expansion is aligned with Singapore’s vision of becoming the digital capital of Asia and reinforces our position as the region’s leading data management and connectivity hub.”
