Courts unveils new Orchard Road store to cater to mass market

Retailer Courts has unveiled a new store along Orchard Road, near the Somerset MRT station.

Courts says it will soon open the new eight-storey store, offering about 44 thousand square feet of electronics and home furnishings.

Courts is taking over the premises that retailer John Little had previously occupied since 2007.

John Little is vacating the space after it did not exercise its option to renew its lease.

Courts says the new downtown store will cater to the mass market.

CEO Terry O’Conner says with the recovering economy, improved consumer sentiments and positive outlook for tourist arrivals, the company believes this is a good time to ride on the uptrend to capture city and tourist shoppers.

Mr O’Connor adds the Orchard Road store will complement Courts’ existing suburban stores.

Courts is also opening a second new store at The Nex shopping mall in Serangoon, by the fourth quarter this year.

With these two new stores, Courts will be creating 90 jobs.
