Citizens with foreign spouses, but without children, have the same priority as singles when applying for 2-room Build-To-Order (BTO) flats, said the Ministry of National Development on Tues (Aug 18).
Minister Khaw Boon Wan, in response to a question from MP Gan Thiam Poh, said that when assigning priority, the Housing and Development Board takes into account the housing needs of the buyers and the prevailing demand and supply situation.
“The low application rates for families for 2-room BTO flats have allowed us to do more for singles. We are now able to set aside half of the 2-room BTO flat supply in non-mature estates for singles,” he said.
“Hence, Singaporeans who are eligible to buy a 2-room BTO flat, in descending order of priority, currently include first-timer singles aspiring to own their own homes, second-timer families seeking to right-size, and lower-income families buying their first flat.
“Under this classification, Singaporeans with foreign spouses and without child are treated no differently from singles.”
