Since the government enhanced the Additional Housing Grant for flat buyers in February, the number of applications for this grant has doubled.
Between February and July, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) received 6,338 applications for the grant, or an average of 1,000 applications per month.
About 24 per cent of the applicants are households that earn between S$4,000 and S$5,000.
In February, the HDB increased the housing grant from S$30,000 to S$40,000, and allowed households earning S$5,000 to qualify.
Since the additional housing grant scheme was introduced in 2006, the government has disbursed S$251 million to more than 16,000 households.
