BCA launches Supervisor Scheme to raise quality in construction sector

The outlook for the construction sector is bright, says Minister of State for National Development Grace Fu.This year’s construction demand forecast has been revised upwards to between S$14 billion and S$16 billion from the previous estimate of S$12 billion to S$13.5 billion.

The sector’s third quarter contribution to the GDP also grew by one per cent.

And more will be done to raise the quality of building projects.

The Building and Construction Authority has launched a Supervisor Scheme to recognise site personnel who have specialised knowledge of its quality assessment system.

This includes the Quality Mark and CONQUAS score.

Come January, a similar certification scheme will be introduced for managerial staff in the construction industry.

To qualify, personnel must meet a set of training requirements and have a track record of supervising projects with good quality assessment score.

The certification will be valid for three years and can be renewed based on their performance in construction projects.
