Reservations for the hotel rooms at the integrated resort will open only on January 11 at 10am. However, the integrated resort said it has received hundreds of calls on its reservations hotline.

Travel agents said while they are targeting markets like the US and the UK, their main focus will be visitors from around the region – including Indonesia, Hong Kong and China.

Other travel agents said they are offering hotel stays at Resorts World as part of a regional tour package to places like Malaysia, Bintan and Batam.

Alicia Seah, senior vice-president, Marketing and PR, Commonwealth Travel Service, said: “We are expecting families, leisure travellers as well as business travellers, who are holding their incentive trips here in Singapore.”

Moreover, those early birds who do not mind the fact that the casino will not be ready until late January will get 30 to 40 per cent off the travel deals.

Judy Lam, group vice-president, Sales & Marketing, Tour East, said: “The pre-opening packages can start from S$200 to S$300 for either a two-night package or a three nights’ package. The actual opening packages would start from about S$500.”

During the soft launch, room rates at Resorts World’s three hotels – Hotel Michael, Festive Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel – are likely to range between S$400 per night for a regular deluxe room and S$3,000 for the presidential suite.

The resort said its four hotels – Crockfords Tower, Hotel Michael, Festive Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel Singapore – will be opened on that day.

Resorts World Sentosa began operations at two of its four hotels on Tuesday, and employees and their families were the resort’s main guests before the hotels’ public opening.

Resorts World Sentosa’s chief executive, Tan Hee Teck, said the phased schedule would allow the resort and its 10,000 employees to run in operations and deliver the expected guest experience.

The integrated resort (IR) said it is working closely with the authorities to obtain approvals for Universal Studios Singapore, which will open next.

As for the casino’s opening date, it will be announced when the IR gets notice of its casino licence.

Together, the four hotels offer a combined inventory of 1,350 rooms and 10 restaurant outlets at their opening.

Another two hotels at the resort – Equarius Hotel and Spa Villas – will add another 500 rooms when they are launched in phase two after this year.

The IR will also open the world’s largest Marine Life Park and its Maritime Experiential Museum in the second phase.

Its management says Singaporeans remain its top priority when hiring, and it is receiving up to a thousand applications a day.

The comments were made at the media preview of four new hotels that will be opening on the island next year.

The Maxims Tower, Hotel Michael, Festive Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel are just four of six hotels that locals and foreigners alike can look forward to staying at.

Each hotel has a unique theme designed to cater to the needs of a particular set of guests.

For example, the Maxims Tower is an all-suite hotel with 24-hour butler service, built directly above the casino.

It is an exclusive by-invitation-only hotel intended for high-rollers, royalty and VIPs.

The six hotels can accommodate up to a total of 1,800 guests.

According to Resorts World at Sentosa, about 40 per cent of the 10,000 people hired will be working in the hotels.

And its management is confident the rooms will be filled, in spite of the uncertain times.

Vice-president, Rooms at Resorts World at Sentosa, Andrew Hickey, said: “Having six hotels plus all the other amenities around the hotels… That’s going to be very, very attractive. And we’re very certain there will be high demand.”

The remaining 60 per cent of 10,000 strong staff will be distributed evenly between the casino and Universal Studios.

Eighty per cent of the 500 people already hired are locals, and Resorts World at Sentosa says that the bulk of the jobs will continue to go to Singaporeans, with the exception of specialist jobs that require experience in gaming and international theme parks.

The Festive Hotel, with its family-themed focus, boasts of loft beds for parents travelling with children. The Festive Hotel, alongside the Maxims Tower, Hotel Michael and the Hard Rock Hotel, will open early next year.

The Resorts World at Sentosa says it is already receiving enquiries about booking reservations.

This brings the total building contracts awarded so far to over S$2 billion. The S$6 billion integrated resort is slated for completion in early 2010.

Kajima-Tiong Seng will construct three of the six hotels in Resorts World and the resort’s thoroughfare, FestiveWalk.

The three hotels – Maxims Residences, Hotel Michael and Festive Hotel – will offer some 1,000 suites and rooms out of the 1,800 to be found throughout the resort.

The contract also includes the construction of a 15,000-square-metre casino located at the basement of Maxims Residences which will feature gaming rooms, suites and lounges.

The joint venture will also build a dual purpose 1,600-seat Le Vie showroom, which doubles as a Plenary Hall, in Festive Hotel. – CNA/vm
